Blanket fot little prinsses. Do yourself unique minky blanket

Minky fabric is absolute star of all baby fabrics. The most famous thing made with this fabric is of course minky blanket! Minky blanket is simply must have. I needed a gift for one little princess so I decided to sew minky blanket. So today I invite you for minky blanket DIY!
I have chosen pink blanket (because this is what little princesses like the most!). Minky fabric is bright pink and the cotton for back of blanket side is pink with white stars. I added also one extra thing: lettering with name on blanket. I really wanted it to be unique and personal gift. You can not buy such blanket in shop. So you can do it! Tutorial below.

Supplies you’ll need:

  • minky fabric of dimensions 33 x 40 ½ inches (83x103 cm)
  • cotton of dimensions 33 x 40 ½ inches (83x103 cm)
  • wadding for filling
  • rotary cutter
  • mat
  • ruler
  • fleece fabric (for lettering)
  • scissors
  • sewing machine
  • pen for fabrics

Step 1:
This minky blanket has dimensions of 31 ½ “x39 ½ “(80x100 cm). Take fabrics: minky and cotton. Measure out 33“x 40 ½” on both fabrics. Using rotary cutter and ruler trim rectangle of dimensions 33“x 40 ½” from both fabrics. Remeber to use mat during triming.

Step 2:
The lettering with name of little prinsseses I cut out from white fleece fabric. Then I sewed it using sewing machine. I used special stitch for applications.

Step 3:
Put together minky fabric and cotton (see photo). Use pins to pin fabrics (in this way fabrics not move during sewing). Sew fabrics along three sides using sewing machine. Leve one shorter side open (it is needed to flip the blanket right side out and put filling inside).

Step 4:
Flip blanket right side out. Take wadding for filling and trim rectangle of blanket dimensions. Place wadding inside blanket (see photo).

Step 5:
Sew the open side of blanket. Sew blanket along each edge using decorating stitch. This fastens the filling and gives nice finished look.

Hurray! Blanket is finished. :) This is how it looks. Isn’t it beautiful?
